Sunner Kolsch

Country - Cologne, Germany

Percentage - 4.8%

Brewing Company - Gebr, Sunner GmbH & Co.

Pronounced "Zoo-nah" this is a Kolsch style beer which is unique to Koln (Colgne). Like Champagne it is protected by law so that only beers brewed in that region can bear the name. Kolsch is generally straw coloured in appearance and the taste is gently fruity, slightly sweet with a crisp dry finish. Sunner is the oldest brewery in Colgne and has been family owned and operated for six generations.
Immediately when poured this beer does not have the aforementioned appearance. Whilst the taste is refreshing, it is light on the palate and we cannot detect the fruity sweetness.A dry finish is present but all in all in our experience this is more similar to a pilsener. This is quite disappointing given how enjoyable the Four Pines Kolsch is. Honestly whilst this maybe the original Kolsch there are better and more innovative Kolsch's on the market.

Verdict - Good
