James Boag's Premium Lager

Country - Australia

Percentage - 5.0%

Brewing Company - J. Boag & Son Brewing

A good friend of ours Andrew Cork (the king of all things beer and brewing related) is a fan of this one, so we thought we'd give it a review. This is a european style lager that is fermented at lower temperatures than most other Australian beers of this style and employs an extended maturation period. When poured this beer is a light golden colour with a decent head and noticeable effervescence. It has a mild mellow aroma of hops, the flavour is clean and crisp with a bitterness that is not overpowering. This beer creates an enjoyable balance between malt and hops complimented by a fresh aftertaste that does not linger on the palate. A good Australian beer of a high quality, perfectly good for that all important session.

Verdict - Great

  1. Couldn't agree more. Clean and crisp is the right way to describe this beer. Certainly hits the spot with that first beer after a hard days work on a hot day. A safe beer if you are to entertain guests or friends and not sure what type of beer they like. Can't go wrong.

  3. Is this the original recipe? It was 5% CUB changed it some years ago, reduced the bottle to 345ml and made it bland. CUB then said they'd heard from 'all our customers' and upped bottle to 375ml. I was a glued on fan until they tampered with it. Can anyone please advise if it is now back to its old flavour? Thanks, Paul
